Coping at Christmas

Coping at Christmas

23rd of December, 2023

Christmas is often represented as “the most wonderful time of the year” but for many, it can be a difficult and particularly stressful time of year.

There are various issues and expectations that people face during the festive season such as: Grief and loss, loneliness, isolation, debt/money worries, work commitments and pressures, difficult family relationships, keeping up with family traditions, limited access to support and services and isolation…all of which can have a big impact on our mental health.

It can be particularly painful time of year when you're missing someone and it's important to remember that while there are individual, cultural and societal expectations and traditions of what Christmas (and the festive season) should look, feel or be like...there is no right or wrong way to do Christmas.

There are strategies you can use to help you cope at Christmas and other services and helplines who are there if you need some breathing space and a listening ear.
