Getting to the root of anxiety

Getting to the root of anxiety

22nd of May, 2023

Hello you gorgeous bunch, as I said in my wee lead up to #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek video, I believe that we need to get to and work through the root cause of anxiety (and so many other diagnosis/labels) rather than just focusing on and treating the symptoms.

As a society, we seem to be diagnosis driven and identify ourselves by a label (or get one assigned to us) rather than identifying the emotion and talking about how we feel. There is a huge difference between feeling anxious, worried, scared etc and having anxiety. Similarly, feeling sad and/or having low mood is not the same as having depression. Thinking and feeling deeply is not a personality disorder. Critically reflecting is not the same as overthinking. And, where does it all stem from?

How can we and/others develop the ability to understand, use, and manage our own emotions if we can't even identify them or where they have come from? How can we learn to regulate and manage our emotions to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathise, overcome obstacles and defuse conflict (to name but a few) if we are ignoring the importance of #emotionalintelligence

If we don't learn the value of emotional intelligence and get to and work through the cause we, in some ways, negate the #humanexperience and the #interconnection between our #thoughts #feelings #experiences #action and #inaction #YouMatterAlways #whoyouarematters #whatshappenedtoyoumatters
